Sadly, a 4-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy died after a motor vehicle accident in Hardin County, Kentucky. According to Kentucky State Police, the accident occurred just after 3 p.m. on March 25, 2018.
The early investigation revealed that George Smith, who is 36 and from Lebanon, was driving on the west bound side of the road in his Nissan minivan. Inside the minivan were 3 girls, ages four, two, and one. In addition to the young girls, there was also a 3-year-old boy and another female female passenger in the minivan at the time of the accident. The female passenger, who was from Gravel Switch, has been identified as 27-year-old Crystal Lynn Shipp.
According to the police accident report, the rear driver’s side tire of smith’s minivan blew out, causing him to lose control. The minivan ended up veering into the center median and overturned. It then slide into the eastbound passing lanes of the highway.
Officers say a Buick Enclave that was traveling in the east bound passing lane hit the back end of Smith’s Nissan minivan. The driver of the Buick Enclave, 51-year-old Michael Read, was traveling with his wife and their teenage daughter when the accident took place. All 3 people inside the Buick didn’t suffer any injuries in the crash.
George Smith had to be transported to a nearby hospital where we was listed as stable. Crystal Shipp had to be airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville. Her condition was also listed as stable. As of this writing, the condition of the two accident victims is unknown.
Unfortunately, the 4-year-old girl and 3-year-old boy who were traveling inside of the Nissan minivan were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The 2-year-old girl was transported to a local hospital and her condition was listed as stable. The 1-year-old girl was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital where she was listed as stable. As of now, the condition of the 2 girls is unknown.
The accident is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
