When Would I Be Eligible For Temporary Total Disability (TTD)?

When you’re injured at work in Kentucky, there are many possible benefits you may be able to claim. Temporary total disability is one of the most common types of benefits available to injured workers that can’t return to work for a period of time.

Temporary total disability, also called TTD, is a type of workers’ compensation benefit that is paid to injured workers who have 1) not reached maximum medical improvement (MMI) and 2) have not reached a level of improvement that allows that to return to work for at least a period of 7 days.

Since the worker cannot return to work for a temporary period of time, these benefits are intended to replace the injured worker’s lost wages until their injury heals, they reach MMI, or their doctor permits them to return to work.

CALCULATING TTD

If you are awarded TTD, you will receive two-thirds of your average weekly wage, which is subject to certain caps, minimums, and limitations. The minimum and maximum amounts that you may receive in Kentucky change annually. The Kentucky Department of Workers’ Claims website can tell you what the minimum and maximum TTD rates are for your specific injury date.

Benefits are calculated on a case by case basis and may vary depending on certain factors and circumstances. It’s important to hire a workers’ comp attorney who can look at the details of your specific situation and determine whether you are entitled to additional benefits.
