Kentucky Dog Bite Laws

Kentucky dog bite laws are tough on owners and favorable to victims of injury. Kentucky is also a “strict liability” state, which means that the owner of the dog is liable for all damages incurred by the victim and may be liable for individuals, livestock, property and pets. The Kentucky dog bite statute can be found in Section 258.235 of the Kentucky Revised Statutes.

Can You Go to Jail if Your Dog Bites Someone?

Because of how serious Kentucky takes dog bites, an owner can receive a fine of $50 to $200 and/or be jailed for a length of 10 to 60 days if a dog attacks someone. If it happens more than once, then the penalties will increase. The dog can also be removed from the owner, either for a temporary period of time or permanently.
